Neorealism- Italian and World Cinema

The Neo-Realism movements was a national film movement that told the stories of the poor and working class by using real people, not actors , and usually filming on site of real city’s . Influencers of this movement were people like Vittorio De Sica with the movie Bicycle Thief. This movie was such a real experience. From the beginning we become emotionally attached to this character,Antonio Ricci, who just wants to provide for his family , and then as we see him acheive some of his goals, like getting a job , only to be back in trouble it captivated our attention and keeps us interested. As all the beginning scenes are being played we are all on the edge of our seats waiting for the tittle to become true and time after time when it doesn’t happen it makes us want to see it happen even more which is really amazing to me.  Another movie of this movement was The Exterminating Angel by Luis Buñuel  which was just as attention grabbing to me. This movie was really great because the little clip I watched in class was very relatable in a way. The different angles shot of the same scene that was replayed was a new way to view a film and I really liked it because it made me pay more attention to the details and the storyline of the movie. This movement was really cool to explore and see how moviemakers of that time thought and it is really inspiring to young film makers like me.
